“The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.”
Nahum 1:7
The escalating conflict in Ukraine has left more than 6.2 million people internally displaced and millions more struggling to access safe water. When the conflict began in February 2022, we immediately deployed to serve refugees seeking safety in bordering countries. By April, we were one of the first organizations to have safe water access for internally displaced people within Ukraine.
As of December 2022, we have installed more than 40 emergency safe water systems across seven Ukrainian cities. These systems have produced more than 20 million liters of safe water, serving more than 100,000 people. Additionally, our teams on the ground have provided engineering expertise, consultations, and water quality testing to local municipal water employees. In addition, we coordinated with partners to distribute more than 10,000 hygiene kits and three million water purification packets.
Many cities in the region have suffered immense damage to public water and power infrastructure. Safe water access is critical in the cold winter months. We will continue to expand our response by working collaboratively with regional city mayors, local governments, and churches to address the most critical safe water needs.
Local churches continue to partner with us to address physical and spiritual needs, bringing the reassurance of God’s love to those who have experienced tremendous loss.
Please pray for the men, women, and children of Ukraine. Pray also for our team working in Ukraine and the surrounding region to get safe water flowing; may God protect and guide them in this vital service. May we continue to bring hope to our global neighbors in their time of greatest need, serving as an example of our Lord’s great love. No matter how great the need, our God’s love is greater.
Please also consider coming alongside Water Mission to serve your global neighbors in Ukraine. Your gift will bring hope amid this heartbreaking tragedy.
